A bus collided with two parked vehicles before colliding with the building at the corner of River Avenue and Wilmot Place at 2 p.m., according to a statement from the Winnipeg Fire Department. Rescuers treated a person at the scene, who was then taken to hospital in an unstable condition. Winnipeg police probationers blocked traffic on River, which is a one-way street on Nassau Street. As a result, traffic cannot reach the point where River turns into Wellington Crescent. A blue sedan and a white SUV also appear to have been severely damaged in the collision. Winnipeg police said the driver of the bus was taken to hospital. It is not known if anyone else was on the bus at the time of the accident. Paramedic staff can be seen caring for a person after a bus collided with a building outside River Avenue on Thursday. (Submitted by Karen Asher) Karen Asher saw the aftermath of the crash around 2pm and saw paramedics watching a person who appeared to be the driver. He did not see any passengers. “I immediately heard a scream and a bang and was shocked to see a bus crash into the heritage building directly across from me,” he said. An officer walks past an injured and damaged SUV, pointing in the opposite direction on River Avenue. (Bryce Hoye / CBC) Asher has lived in the area for more than 20 years and says there are frequent collisions in the corner where River bends and becomes Wellington’s crescent. CBC News has requested more information from Paramedic Fire Winnipeg and is awaiting a response. At least three vehicles, including this sedan on River Avenue, were damaged during the collision.
