Katie Boulter came from a set at Center Court to beat sixth-placed Karolina Pliskova and win a third-round match against Harmony Tan, the first-round winner Serena Williams. Heather Watson advanced to the third round after taking just one game to complete her belated fight with Chinese Wang Qiang. Liam Broady joins the British team in the third round, after beating the 12th seed Diego Sharjman in a fifth set. Britain’s Alastair Gray is out, however, having lost 6-3, 7-6 (4), 6-3 to Taylor Fritz, the 11th seed. Also out is Harriet Dart from London, who lost in three sets to American eighth set Jess Pegula. The men’s draw lost a third player to Covid, with Spain’s 17th Spaniard Roberto Bautista Agut being forced to retire after testing positive.
Women’s Simple: 2019 Wimbledon champion and No. 16 Simona Halep is off the field playing Belgium’s Kirsten Flipkens, who is ranked 190th in the world. It is 3-2 for Flipkens in No 2 Court and goes with service. Iga Swiatek loses the second set. Despite losing in the last round of qualifiers, Lesley Pattinama Kerkhove, who was never in the top 100 in the world, entered the main draw as a lucky loser and has now restored the No. 1 seed to a set all in the second round. Women’s Individual: The 25-year-old right-hander from Hampstead lost to American No. 8 Jess Pegula in three sets: 4-6, 6-3, 6-1. Katie Boulter will face Harmony Tan in the third round. Having repelled Karolina Pliskova earlier this afternoon, Boulter will face Tan on Saturday afternoon in a match that can be played at Center Court. This is a huge opportunity for both players, but having seen them both play this week, my 50s would be for the Leicester woman. Harmony Tan advanced to the third round. The Frenchwoman who did so well to beat Serena Williams in the first round won her second match in the tournament. At Court 17, she defeated Spain’s No. 32 Sara Sorribes Tormo, who is 70 places above her.
Rafael Nadal is next in Center Court
Men’s Individual: The Spaniard receives a warm welcome in the center as he exits the locker room with Lithuanian opponent Ricardas Berankis, 32, ranked 106th in the world and has never passed the second round of Wimbledon in eight tries. Luke Broady most recently: Britain No. 5 drops two sets to one in his fight with Argentina’s Diego Schwartzmann, who is 12th in the league. Another withdrawal from Covid: No. 17 Roberto Bautista Agut became the third player to retire from the men’s singles with Covid, the Spaniard along with Matteo Berrettini and Marin Cilic being forced out of the bottom half of the draw.

“I have no words at the moment, I am literally trembling,” she said in a post-match interview. “The crowd was incredible, so thank you so much for making me get through it.” She goes on to say that her grandmother died two days ago and “I would just like to dedicate it to her today”. He adds that reaching the third round of a slam event for the first time is a dream come true for me. “I hope I will have many more games to play and if I can have you behind me, I hope I can go very far. Thank you very much, thank you. ”
