The two-time Wimbledon champion Murray suffered his first exit from the tournament as he lost in four sets in the second round to Isner, who shot down 36 aces and did not miss a single serve. Murray had only two chances for a break point in the game and found it difficult to see many of Isner’s serve games. Wimbledon Wimbledon Game Series, Day 4 – When do Swiatek, Nadal and Boulter play? 13 HOURS AGO Isner is the 20th seed in the tournament and the next he will play with the 10th seed Jannik Sinner. “I really want to try to improve my ranking to a level where I will reach the Slams. That was my goal after Miami, “said Murray, who did not qualify for Wimbledon as the No. 52 in the world. “I’ve talked a lot with my team about it, and this is something I want to try and put myself in a position, I hope the US Open comes. If not the US Open, then I will go to the Australian Open next year, where I will be seed again. “It obviously means that I have to be out there to compete and win races because it makes, as I said, things more difficult. “I came to Wimbledon feeling like I could do a deep run. If you play with top players right at the beginning of the tournament, it obviously makes it a little harder. These are my goals from now until the US Open. “I could have had a good run here. “One of the reasons it’s important to improve your ranking and try to qualify is to avoid playing top players and dangerous guys like this early in the tournament.” Asked how long he can continue to play, Murray, 35, added: “It depends on how physically I am. Physically [if] I feel good, then we will try to keep playing. “But it is extremely difficult with the problems I have had with my body in recent years to make long-term predictions about how I will be even in a few weeks, without caring in a year. “If I am physically in a good position, yes, I will continue to play. “But it is not easy to keep my body in optimal condition to fight at the highest level.” Murray looked in good shape on the grass earlier in the summer as he reached the semi-finals at the Sorbiton and then the final in Stuttgart. But an injury to his abdomen meant he was unable to play Queen’s or other events before Wimbledon. Murray, who had won all eight of his previous meetings with Isner, said he felt “in a good position” before the competition. “I did not feel that I was not well cooked when I entered the tournament. I felt that physically I was in a good place. I played several matches. I was ready to do well here. But the margins are good at the highest level. “Tournament brilliant” – Wilander reacts to double Williams and Murray “I think the first sets did not serve well … It served extremely well, as you would expect. “Then in the fourth set I probably lost a game on my serve that I shouldn’t have, 30-0. I missed one or two shots in that game, especially this one in the second half, I had a backhand that I really should not have missed. “When I had my chances, he served extremely well and did not give me many chances. “When I got them, I did not receive many looks at the second serve at important moments in his service.” Murray also compared his feelings to a year ago, when he lost in a straight set in the third round to Dennis Sapovalov. “Last year was difficult for different reasons. Obviously I was looking forward to playing at Wimbledon, but at the same time I did not feel that my game was going well. “Physically I was not in a good position when I entered the tournament last year. I was really frustrated and wondered, for example, if all the work I was doing was worth it because my body was not yet able to feel that I could be competitive against the best players. “While this year my game was definitely in a better position. Physically I felt good, except for 10 days after Stuttgart, which was disappointing. “Yes, it is one of those matches that, if I had passed, who knows what would have happened. “Yes, it is frustrating for different reasons.” — Watch daily highlights from Wimbledon at 22:00 on Eurosport 2 and Discovery + from 27 June, as well as its two singles finals live on 9 and 10 July.
