Vujnovic explained that the WHO has strongly recommended that all nations worldwide make massive efforts to identify new cases of monkeypox and trace contacts to control outbreaks and prevent further spread. Similarly, the WHO representative stressed that there is no need to mass vaccinate the Russian population against smallpox. “Mass vaccination is not currently recommended, but it is being considered in some cases to vaccinate contacts or vulnerable people,” he stressed. In this regard, Natalia Psheníchnaya, Deputy Director of Clinical and Analytical Work at the Russian Central Research Institute of Epidemiology, said in the past days that Russia has not reported any cases of monkeypox so far, however, she assured that health protocols have been established to detect every case. WHO must report more than 5,100 cases in 51 non-endemic nations from May 13 to July 1. pll/car/odf
