A Walmart employee shot and killed six people in a mass shooting inside a store in Chesapeake, Virginia, before turning the gun on himself, authorities said. Police were called to the store at around 10.12pm on Tuesday night to find several people dead and injured at the scene. Six victims were killed in the attack and four others remained in hospital with injuries as of Wednesday morning. A statement from Walmart confirmed the identity of the alleged shooter as Andre Bing, the overnight team leader who has worked at the company since 2010. Police executed a search warrant at the suspect’s home after the shooting and determined “there is no ongoing danger to the public,” the police chief said. The identities of the victims have also not been officially released at this time, but a memorial has been placed in a tree outside the store. The motive for the shooting is unknown, but witnesses said they believe it was planned, targeting co-workers and remember the gunman laughing.

Walmart has created a collaborative resource center for Walmart associates and their family members following Tuesday night’s tragedy in Chesapeake. The store is currently closed. Chesapeake Police are releasing the timeline of the incident

The Chesapeake Police Department released the following timeline of what happened at the city’s Walmart: On November 22, 2022, at approximately 10:12 p.m., Chesapeake Police responded to the Walmart located at 1521 Sam’s Circle in reference to an active shooter inside the store. The first A police officer arrived at the scene within two minutes, at around 10.14pm and officers entered the shop at around 10.16pm. Once inside the store, officers began locating and evacuating the store’s occupants. Police found several injured and dead during their investigations. At least six injured were taken to local hospitals for further treatment. There were a total of seven deaths. Three people, including the shooter, were found dead at the break shop room. One victim was found dead near the front of the store. Three other victims were taken to local hospitals for further treatment but succumbed to their injuries. The shooter has been identified as 31-year-old Andre Bing of Chesapeake. Mr Bing was dead when police arrived at the scene. He is currently believed to have died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Mr. Bing has been identified as an employee of Walmart. On his person he was armed with a pistol and several magazines. Mr. Bing was dressed in civilian clothes and was not wearing any type of body armor or ballistic vest. At least 50 people are believed to have been inside the store at the time of the shooting. Police are still trying to account for anyone who may have been in the store and witnessed the incident, but fled before police arrived. The Chesapeake SWAT team executed a search warrant at the suspect’s residence and with the assistance of Virginia State Police cleared the home. Investigators are actively working to learn more about the suspect’s background and what may have led to the shooting. The Walmart store is expected to remain closed for several days while detectives continue to gather evidence and process the crime scene. Chesapeake detectives are actively contacting family members of the victims and will release the names of the victims once all family members have been contacted.
