Everyone thought [the manager] he was in a mood or something,” Ms Shupe said. “Suddenly it changed. Go from looking to actually seeing a gun.” A bullet grazed her son’s ear and she began to flee, seeing people in the group she had to jump to save herself. When Jalen got to the front, he said, he was shot again. “His exact words were: ‘They shot me… They actually shot me.’ And then, when he got to the front, his exact words were: “I just got shot again,” Ms. Shupe said. “So you know, you got shot at first. And now that you’re trying to go for help, shoot again.” Jalen was helped by a co-worker and they waited in her car until help arrived. He had been shot in the back and sternum and thought he was going to die.
