After experiencing one of the first snowfalls on record, there have been several clear, sunny days in the city this November and even some distinctly foggy ones. And while the weather has been wet and slightly warmer so far this week, temperatures are expected to drop further into the weekend – and they’re not expected to warm up anytime soon. While overnight lows will range between 3C and 7C for the rest of the week, Sunday night (November 27) is expected to be 1C lower, with a chance of rain or snow. After that, there’s another chance of flurries overnight Monday when temperatures drop to freezing. The Weather Network notes that Western Canada saw this cold pattern earlier in November when Arctic air poured into the region. Now, two upper ridges are expected to “anchor the next cold wave right in early December, promising more snowfall and cold temperatures across much of the country,” according to a report.
Metro Vancouver weather forecast for December
A ridge of high pressure over Alaska is expected to bring a significant chunk of icy air into Canada from the core of a polar vortex currently over eastern Siberia in Russia — and it’s not expected to clear anytime soon.
“Another ridge is looking to lock in the cold across the country. Signs of a blocking pattern over eastern Greenland are building, squeezing the cold anomaly across Canada,” says The Weather Network.
Now that we’re deeper into November, the weather channel notes that storms breaking out along the B.C. they also have a greater tendency to drop the snow level to sea level.
How low will the temperatures be in Vancouver?
The Weather Network predicts temperatures in Vancouver will drop to a daily high of 3C, marking a significant departure from highs nearing 10C this week.
A slight chance of snow is expected Sunday and Monday night.
