The weather service says the watch is in effect for the Boundary, Nicola, Shuswap and South Thompson areas. The Fraser Gorge – including Lillooet – and the Okanagan Valley – including Kelowna, Vernon and Penticton – are also included in the watch. The BC River Forecast Center has issued a high-flow advisory for the southern interior and southeastern region of the province, including the Similkameen, Okanagan and Mission Creek, Boundary, East and West Kootenay rivers and their tributaries. A high stream flow advisory means river levels are rising or expected to rise rapidly, but major flooding is not expected. It says there is a chance for heavy rain and storms in the southern interior and Kootenays on Sunday and Monday, and rivers are expected to rise in areas that receive the heaviest rainfall. The center says that given the uncertainty about the exact locations and intensity of the rainfall, it is likely that small and medium watersheds across the region will experience high flows on Monday and Tuesday. A flood warning, first issued on June 27, remains in effect for Quesnel. A warning means that flooding is expected. Forecasters say people should stay indoors during a storm and avoid fast-flowing riverbanks when warnings are in place.
