An adviser to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenksy admitted that Lysychansk, the last Ukrainian-held town in the Luhansk region, could fall to Russian forces as fighting intensified this weekend. Oleksiy Arestovych says Russian forces crossed the Siversky Donets River and were approaching the city from the north. Arestovich says: “This is indeed a threat. We’ll see. I’m not ruling out any of the different outcomes here. Things will become much clearer in a day or two.” Rodion Mirosnik, ambassador to Russia of the breakaway Lugansk People’s Republic, told Russian television that Lysihansk had been “under control” but “has not yet been liberated.” The governor of Luhansk region, Serhi Haidai, says the attack on Lysychansk has not stopped, with the Russians closing in on the besieged city from all sides.
