UPDATE 1:50 p.m. Police have confirmed that two people lost their lives in a house in Peachland, in an apparent murder-suicide. The RCMP received a report at 4:30 p.m. on Monday who reported that a woman had received a call from her friend saying she had committed murder and was thinking of injuring herself.
Officers found that the call was related to a house in Peachland, at 6033 Garraway Place. Police flooded the house and set up a curfew, but were unable to contact those inside. Tactical officers entered the house at about 6:20 p.m. and found a man dead with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound nearby. A second person was also found dead in the house.
“It is believed that the two men knew each other and that there was no further threat to the public,” said RCMP spokesman Dawn Roberts. The RCMP says it will work with the BC Medical Examiner’s Office to locate the dead and the exact cause of death. The BC Police Officer, the Office of Independent Investigations, has also been called in to determine whether police actions contributed to the deaths. The IIO investigates all incidents of death or serious injury in which police are involved, regardless of whether there are allegations of offenses.
