Six police officers were injured in a shootout late Tuesday morning at the Bank of Montreal in Saanich on southern Vancouver Island. Police also said they had to dispose of explosive devices found in a vehicle associated with the suspects on Thursday. The Auchterlonie brothers, both 22, were from Duncan, BC, on central Vancouver Island. Neither brother had a criminal record, according to the RCMP. they were not previously known to the police. “There are still many questions and investigative efforts that need to be done in order to fully understand what happened and why,” said Cpl. Alex Bérubé at Saturday’s press conference. “The motive behind the armed robbery and subsequent shootout with police has yet to be determined.” The investigation into Tuesday’s shooting is being led by the Vancouver Island Integrated Crime Unit (VIIMCU). At the same time, an investigation has been launched by the Independent Investigations Office, the watchdog that reviews all police actions that result in death or serious harm. A police car identified as a white 1992 Toyota Camry four-door with black racing stripes over the hood and roof was seen in Saanich, BC, on Tuesday. Police say the car was linked to the suspects and are asking for any public information. The BC coroner’s office identified the brothers on Friday, according to Bérubé. Police said they are still seeking public tips about the suspects’ car, a white 1992 Toyota Camry with two black racing stripes over the hood and roof.
