Annual inflation was 78.62% in June, according to the Turkish Statistical Service, beating forecasts. Rising consumer prices have hit the population of 84 million hard, with little hope of improvement in the near term as a result of the Russia-Ukraine war, high energy and food prices and the sharp devaluation of the lira, the national currency. Transport prices rose by 123.37% and prices of food and non-alcoholic beverages rose by 93.93%, according to government data.
