A video posted on YouTube on July 1 shows two masked men carrying Canadian flags “surfing” on the roof of a moving subway train on Line 3. The two men then jump off as the train enters Kennedy Station and leaves the scene. The video, posted by ChaseTO, is captioned: “Celebrating the greatest country on earth by train surfing in my city. Happy Canada Day.” The TTC tweeted about the incident Monday morning. “These incidents are taken seriously and will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,” the transition agency wrote. “Dangerous and careless, to say the least.”

This weekend, we were made aware of a recent video showing an incredibly malicious stunt on Line 3. It is under investigation and the video is being developed. These incidents are taken seriously and will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. Dangerous and careless, to say the least. — TTC Media Relations 📰🚌🚋🚈 (@TTCNewsroom) July 4, 2022 This morning, TTC spokesman Stuart Green said they are now in the process of capturing video from “stations and trains.” A description of the suspects and more details about what happened are not available at this time, he said. “It goes without saying that stunts like this are incredibly dangerous and illegal. They can lead to serious injury or death, as well as service delays and huge inconvenience to our customers,” he said in a statement. Speaking to CP24 this afternoon, Green said this kind of behavior is “really stupid, frankly.” “There are a lot of reasons why people just shouldn’t do this,” he said, adding that depending on the outcome of the investigation, there could be some “very serious consequences.” Green said those found responsible could receive a $425 fine for violating TTC regulations, but could also be charged criminally by police with trespassing on property. Last August, the TTC investigated a similar “train surfing” incident after a three-minute video surfaced of a man hanging from the back of a moving subway train at Bathurst Station traveling westbound. The man is seen arriving at the Spadina station and running away. TTC Special Constables investigated this incident, which they believe occurred around August 20, 2021. The account where the video was posted, ChaseTO, also includes clips of people climbing to the top of the Niagara Fallsview Casino and the former Kingston Penitentiary. –with files from Chris Herhalt
