A judge rejected a request by Justice Department prosecutors to hold Donald Trump’s team in contempt of court for not fully complying with a subpoena to return all government documents it is accused of illegally keeping after he left the White House. Trump’s lawyers have argued in federal court that he complied with subpoena requests for documents in his personal possession, while prosecutors say investigations conducted on behalf of the former president were insufficient. Instead, the judge urged the two sides to resolve the dispute themselves, sources told ABC News. It comes as the Jan. 6 select committee is reportedly considering criminal charges against at least four of Trump’s associates: former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows, attorney John Eastman, former Trump lawyer Rudy Giuliani and former Justice Department official Jeffrey Clark, sources said. CNN. Meanwhile, Trump has slammed the deal that led to the return of Brittney Griner from Russia, complaining that Joe Biden should have sought the release of US Marine Paul Whelan. He did not acknowledge that Whelan was arrested in Russia on his watch, or that he himself failed to get him home.

The Biden administration in its second year in the White House has enjoyed economic growth, a string of legislative victories and relative success for the president’s party in the midterms. GOP reconsiders dislike of mail-in ballots after disappointing midterm elections

The Georgia runoff election was just the latest example of how Republicans have given Democrats an advantage in the polls because of former President Donald Trump’s lies about the dangers of voting by mail. Conservative conspiracy theorists urged GOP voters to wait until Election Day before casting their ballots and spun stories about how such a strategy would prevent Democrats from rigging voting machines to steal the election. There was no widespread fraud in the 2020 election or this year’s midterm elections. One problem with such a strategy is the random glitches that often occur on election day. Will the Trump bashing have less bite in 2024?

Donald Trump dominated the GOP primaries this year, using the power of his support to carry his preferred candidates for the party’s nomination. But many of those contenders, including Mehmet Oz in Pennsylvania, lost in the general election. The latest was Herschel Walker, whose loss Tuesday in Georgia gave Democrats 51 of the 100 Senate seats. Trump now faces blame from some Republicans for contributing to the party’s midterm shortfalls, and that could make room for McCormick and others without worrying about a backlash from the former president. Former president complains about record foreign hostages

Reiterating his earlier claim that WNBA player Brittney Griner’s prisoner swap with arms dealer Viktor Bout was bad for America because it didn’t include Paul Whelan, Donald Trump is now complaining that his own record for releasing hostages was something that ” it had never been done before in any administration.” Trump has come under fire for failing to act to free Mr. Whelan while in office. He claims that if he had made a deal to free the ex-Marine, Democrats would have accused him of colluding with Russia. Here’s what he posted on Truth Social on Friday night: Earlier, Mr Whelan’s twin tweeted that the former president had mentioned his brother’s name more in the past 24 hours than in his two years in office and could have acted to free him.
