On the day of the Capitol uprising, several Trump supporters in the crowd were caught on video shouting “hang Mike Pence” after the former vice president refused to illegally attempt to overthrow the 2020 election. Ms. Hutchinson testified before the House Electoral Commission investigating the Capitol uprising on Tuesday. He recalled being in the room with Trump when other aides pressured him to face the violence at the Capitol. They said the crowd was calling for Pence to be hanged. “Mike deserves it,” Hutchinson said, Trump said. She remembered that she was disgusted by the events of that day. “As an American, I was disgusted. It was anti-patriotic, it was anti-American. We saw the Capitol building deformed for a lie,” she said. Mrs. Hutchinson’s testimony was explosive, drawing the curtain on Mr. Trump as the Capitol riots unfolded. He claimed that Mr. Trump intended to walk or drive to the Capitol with the rioters on January 6 after his “stop the theft” demonstration at Ellipse in Washington DC. Hutchinson recalled a conversation between her, former White House Chief of Staff Anthony Ornato, and Trump’s intelligence chief, Robert Engel. Mr. Ornato told Hutchinson that Trump and Engel boarded “The Beast,” a name given to the presidential limousine, and Mr. Trump demanded that he go to the Capitol. Mr Engel reportedly told him that the Capitol was uninsured and that it was too dangerous for him to travel there. When he was told he could not go, he allegedly angered Mr. Trump, who tried to grab the wheel of the limousine. Mr Engel reportedly stopped him and grabbed the president’s hand. After that, Trump allegedly grabbed Engel by the throat. Ms. Hutchinson claimed that Mr. Ornato told her that Trump had screamed, “I am the president of the couple, take me to the Capitol now.” Mr. Engel was in the room with Mr. Ornato when he told the story to Mrs. Hutchinson. Mr Engel did not correct or dispute Mr Ornato’s account of the incident. He also revealed that earlier in the day, shortly before his speech, Trump became “outraged” that some of his supporters were not allowed to enter the Ellipse to hear him speak. He reportedly wanted to see the whole area full and did not want any of his supporters to leave. The evacuees were rejected because they were armed, some with AR-15. Mr. Trump allegedly asked for his security details to be removed from the magnets, or “dudes” they used to ensure that no one was trying to bring weapons to the event. “I was close to a conversation where I heard the President say something that resulted: ‘I do not care that they have weapons. They are not here to hurt me. Take the f ** [magnetrons] “Ms. Hutchinson told the committee.
