The storm is capable of producing golf ball-sized hail and heavy rain, with the possibility of a tornado. Funnel clouds and at least two tornadoes have been spotted in the Sundre area this afternoon. Photos posted on Twitter showed a funnel cloud and possible tornado near Bergen, about five kilometers south of Sudre at about 3 p.m. There are also tornado watches issued north of Calgary, including the city of Red Deer, meaning conditions are favorable for the development of strong storms that could produce tornadoes. The situation in southern Alberta is fluid, with watches and warnings issued and then dropped. In the event of a tornado, Environment Canada advises people to evacuate immediately if they hear a roar or see a funnel cloud, flying debris or any threatening weather approaching. Taking shelter involves moving to a strong building if possible and going to the lowest floor while staying away from exterior walls and windows. As a last resort, Environment Canada advises lying low and protecting your head from flying debris. Calgary was under a severe thunderstorm most of the day. The weather alert comes two days after the tornado touched down near the village of Alliance, about 100 miles east of Red Deer.
