The off-duty corrections officer observed a man open fire on a vehicle during what was believed to be a holiday weekend celebration at Jamaica Avenue and 214th Place in Queens Village shortly after 8 p.m. Sunday. The officer then fired, hitting the gunman three times. A second gunman then fired at the off-duty corrections officer, hitting him once in the left leg. Mayor Eric Adams said the shooters should never have taken to the streets. The original gunman was taken to Jamaica Medical Center and the off-duty corrections officer was taken to North Shore Manhasset University Hospital. The injuries are not believed to be life-threatening either. A third man was reportedly shot during the shootout. Police are checking the scene for evidence.READ ALSO | Good Samaritan tries to save a man who appears to jump into the Hudson River———-* More news from Queens* Send us a news tip* Download the abc7NY app for emergency alerts * Follow us on YouTube
