Oppo is preparing to release its latest rerun of the Reno series on July 21st. While the company has confirmed that the Reno 8 and Reno 8 Pro will be released in India in a few weeks, there has been no confirmation around the dates. An online tipster suggested that the release take place on July 21st. The Reno 8 Pro packs the MariSilicon X NPU into a neural processing unit and supports 4K ultra night videography. The Chinese version of the Reno 8 Pro is powered by a Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 chipset, but the Indian model will likely use the MediaTek Dimensity 8100-Max SoC, Moneycontrol reported. For those who do not know, the Chinese smartphone company had announced this chip in December 2021 for the flagship of the Find X series. Now, this same NPU will make its way to the Reno 8 series. While there were rumors that had revealed This information in the past, the brand officially shared the news along with some improvements to the MariSilicon X platform. According to official notes, the 6nm MariSilicon X NPU will help bring integrated imaging solutions to the Reno 8 series. Thanks to proprietary algorithms, the company has developed a new way of better rendering Indian skin tones with precision and even creating Bokeh Flare Portrait videos. Oppo’s artificial intelligence can even distinguish between skin imperfections and beauty spots, while cleverly applying a different level of beauty and skin smoothing based on the age and gender of the subject. Its optimizations for the Indian market will also help improve HDR performance in wide exposure shots without user intervention. Speaking of the NPU itself, the company took 3 years to develop the chipset and consisted of more than 400 patent applications. It packs 3.6 billion transistors and can perform up to 18 trillion operations per second (18 TOPS). It is built on the 6 nm process and is also capable of real-time lossless AI processing in Bayer RAW with images taken by the Sony IMX766 50MP main camera. As for the other specifications, we can expect that the regular Oppo Reno 8 will have a 6.43-inch AMOLED display and a refresh rate of 120 Hz. The device will be powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 1300 SoC, the main 50MP sensor with NPU support, UFS 3.1 to 256 GB storage and a 4,500 mAh battery that offers fast Super W 80 Flash charging. OPPO is expected to confirm more details as we approach the release date.
