Former President Trump wanted to go to the US Capitol on January 6, 2021, after his speech at the White House Ellipse, much to the disappointment of national security officials who monitored the situation in real time and learned that the Secret Service was interfering to find a way to go a few minutes before the violence began to escalate, according to National Security Council record files from the day they were first unveiled at Tuesday’s hearing. The NSC conversation logs provide a detailed description of how the situation evolved from the perspective of top White House national security officials on January 6, 2021. They also appear to contradict an account by the former chief of staff. White House Mark Meadows in his book in which he says that Trump never intended to go to the Capitol. “MOGUL is going to the Capital; they are clearing a route now,” reads a message sent to the chat log at 12:29 p.m. on January 6 – referring to the code name of the former president’s secret service. “They are finding the best route now.” “MilAide has confirmed that it wants to walk,” an ET message read at 12:32 p.m. “They beg him to reconsider.” “Well that’s happening,” says a message sent at 12:47 p.m. The logs also show how the situation in the Capitol clearly began to escalate shortly before 13:00 ET as lawmakers gathered in the House of Representatives to count the votes of the Electoral College and while Trump was on stage at the White House Ellipse – moments before he called his supporters to walk. “Capitol police are now reporting multiple breaches of the anti-peeling fence,” an ET message read at 12:57 p.m. “The Capitol is now calling on all available to respond,” said another message sent at 1 p.m. “They have taken over the scene over there.” Six minutes later, this message was sent to the NSC conversation, but Trump’s plans remained unclear: “on the use of non-lethal force in the Capitol.” Just at 1:17 p.m. ET that NSC officials knew Trump was on the motorcade and seemed to be heading back to the White House: “He seems to be coming home for now.” “Mogul in the Oval,” said the final message, sent at 1:20 p.m. ET.

Cassidy Hutchinson testified during the hearing that she was told that former President Donald Trump was “outraged” when she was informed by security that she would not go to the Capitol on January 6, 2021, because the situation was not safe. And he testified that he heard a second-hand account of how Trump was so enraged with the Secret Service detail that it prevented him from going to the Capitol that crashed into the front of his presidential SUV and tried to turn the wheel. Tony Ornato, then White House Deputy Chief of Staff, told Hutchinson that Robert Engel, who was in charge of the Secret Service on Jan. 6, 2021, repeatedly told Trump on his return to the White House after Trump at Ellipse. it was not safe to go to the Capitol.
According to Hutchinson, Ornato narrated Trump screaming: “I am the President of F’ing. Take me to the Capitol now. ” Trump then “stretched out the front of the vehicle to grab the steering wheel,” Hutchinson recalled learning. He added that, according to Ornato, Trump used his other hand to “hit” Engel. See how Hutchinson described the President’s anger that prevented him from going to the Capitol: “Tony kept telling me that when the President entered the beast he had the impression from Mr. Meadows that moving off-record to the Capitol was still possible and possible, but that Bobby had more information. as the President had gotten into the car with Bobby, he thought they were going up to the Capitol and when Bobby told him we were not, we do not have the supplies to do it, it is not safe, we will go back to the West Wing, the President had a very intense, very angry response to this. Tony described him as “outraged”. The President said something like “I am the President of F-ing, take me to the Capitol now.” Engel and Ornato both testified before the committee in camera, but their statements were not used at today’s hearing. Asked by CNN for comment on today’s testimony about Trump allegedly stalking his security details and other security allegations on Jan. 6, a Secret Service spokesman said the U.S. Secret Service “is working with Select “Since its inception in the spring of 2021, it will continue to do so, including in replying to the committee minutes of the new allegations made in today’s statement.” CNN’s Josh Campbell contributed to the report in this post.
