On Saturday, BC RCMP named the 22-year-old Duncan brothers as the two dead shooters from Tuesday’s fatal incident. CHEK News spoke to a former classmate of the twin brothers on condition of anonymity. The woman says she had classes with the brothers and was in their class when she graduated. He described the two as “very shy”. “They tended to keep to themselves and not get involved as much. I think in the last years of high school they started branching out a little bit more and making some friends,” the woman said. The woman was nearby as events unfolded on Tuesday and was shocked to learn the Autherlonie brothers were responsible. “It felt very, literally, close to home because what are the chances of it happening so close to my home and then actually knowing the people,” the woman said. She tells CHEK News that she wasn’t close with the two and that the brothers mostly kept to themselves, adding that she didn’t keep in touch with them after graduation. The woman tells CHEK News that although the brothers have been listed as twins, they are triplets and were abandoned by their sister. After learning of the shooting, her former classmate began reliving her high school experiences with them. “In retrospect, it wasn’t a bit more surprising. Just because they almost had the manners, you know the stereotypical shooter in the US,” said the former classmate. A YouTube video was sent to CHEK News that featured one of the brother’s Instagram pages before it was taken down. In the video, Isaac’s page showed footage of the two guns firing in fields, anti-government messages and messages against Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. BC RCMP say there is no evidence the two were part of criminal or extremist organizations, but they are still looking into the possibility. Police are also looking for a motive in the incident. Six police officers were injured, three of whom remain in hospital. Authorities say two of the officers who remain at the hospital are from Saanich police and the third from Victoria police. Police say the brothers were not known to them or had a criminal record.
