According to the Clackamas County District Attorney’s office in Oregon City, Madrano “was taken into custody through a joint effort by the Oregon City Police Department and the Federal Bureau of Investigation on July 2, 2022 in Oregon City. Story continues below ad “The alleged victim was also located with Mr. Mardano.” Chris Owen, chief deputy district attorney, said Madrano is being held in the Clackamas County Jail and is expected to be arraigned at 2 p.m. Tuesday. He will appear in court “on felony information involving kidnapping in the second degree, rape in the second degree and sexual assault in the first degree. “It is understood that the federal government will also press charges. Moving forward, we will work with our federal partners to determine the proper course of action for this prosecution,” Owen added. Several organizations were involved in the investigation, including ALERT (Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams), Northern Alberta Internet Child Exploitation Unit, Oregon City Police and the FBI.

The girl’s father spoke to Global News by phone Tuesday afternoon. “She’s home and safe,” he said of his 13-year-old daughter. “People need to realize that she has a long way to go now. She certainly didn’t come out of it unscathed, but we’re taking it one day at a time. We’ve surrounded her with friends and family and we’re just trying to get through it.” Story continues below ad He said the support from the community over the past week and a half has been amazing and has lifted them through their darkest hours. The girl’s father said the family was at the airport within an hour of finding out she had been found. After several delays and cancellations, they arrived in Oregon and reunited. “It was incredible. She was very emotional. So are we,” he said. “That hug was amazing. It was needed.” The family returned home together on Monday. “It’s really back into kid mode now,” he said. “He’s 13, but as a parent, you always see the baby in your child. Story continues below ad “We want him in prison for as long as possible,” he said. “As the trial progresses, we will be very active and make sure we are at all court appearances and push for the largest sentence possible.” She also has a message for other parents: “Don’t discourage internet use. Always keep an eye on (your) children. This was something that was unexpected for us.
