The military’s YouTube channel features cryptocurrency videos and images of billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk. The official Twitter account has retweeted a number of posts that appear to be related to non-fungible tokens (NFT). These are cryptographic assets – such as an image, video or text – that people can be identified as the owner of. At one stage, the name of the Twitter account was changed to Bapesclan and the profile picture was a cartoon monkey-like figure with clown make-up. The Twitter account was back to normal operation by Sunday afternoon. An army spokesman said: “We are aware of a breach of the army’s Twitter and YouTube accounts and an investigation is ongoing. We take information security very seriously and are addressing the issue. Until the investigation is complete, it would not be appropriate to comment further.”
