It may seem like something out of a nightmare, but this terrifying creature is very real. Jesse Pye, 35, had just woken up for work when he realized something was wrong. As his eyes fluttered open, he spotted a “creature from hell” in bed with him. Jesse pulled out his camera to capture footage of the bug squishing his stomach as it flopped onto his sheets. “It was 7.30 in the morning and I was getting up to get ready for work,” he said. “I saw something black that looked like a snake or a giant worm, I wasn’t sure what it was but I knew it wasn’t good! “My immediate reaction was to slow down and grab my glasses and phone. “I started filming it because I couldn’t believe what I was seeing.” Jesse noticed something hideous had crawled into the bed next to him (Image: Jesse Pye/Pen News) The 35-year-old had no idea what the giant ‘creature from hell’ could be (Image: Jesse Pye/Pen News) “It was then that he saw the long body, with dozens of legs. “I knew it was a centipede, but I wasn’t sure of the type,” the software engineer said. “I wasn’t sure if it was poisonous. “I’ve never seen a centipede this big before.” Jesse, who was staying with a friend in San Antonio, Texas, took to the Internet to try and find an answer to what the terrifying insect was. He posted his footage and realized that his “creature from hell” was actually a giant red-haired centipede. The strange concoction emerged as a giant red-headed centipede (Image: Jesse Pye/Pen News) The polypoid insect had taken up residence under Jesse’s covers (Image: Jesse Pye/Pen News) Its venom usually causes sharp, intense pain around the bite, with the further possibility of nausea, headache and skin necrosis. Individual cases of bites leading to kidney failure and heart attack have also been documented. Jesse estimated that the bug in his bed was up to eight inches long. After he posted the video online, commenters advised him to “burn the whole place down” or “shoot the damn thing.”

Jesse thinks the insect may have been tempted by the hot temperatures outside. He said: “I researched online and they say centipedes escape the heat. “It’s been over 100F (37°C) every day for the past week, so it makes sense.” In the end, Jesse escaped the centipede and moved his bed out of the house. There he shook it until the centipede fell and ran away on its many legs. Contact our news team by emailing us at [email protected] For more stories like this, check out our news page.
