Twenty-eight-year-old Surrey resident Mohamed Abdulrahman Mohamed was the target of the shooting, the Comprehensive Homicide Investigation Team said in a news release Wednesday. While he was known to police and involved in drug trafficking, Mohamed was not known to have gang ties, IHIT said. The group added that Mohammed’s shooting is not connected to other recent shootings in the Lower Mainland. “Regardless of Mohammed’s alleged activities or associations, his life was taken,” said IHIT spokesman Sgt. David Lee, in traffic. “Our investigators are dedicated to solving this homicide and are seeking the public’s assistance.” Mounties were called to the Days Inn near the 13300 block of King George Boulevard around 5 p.m. Monday for reports of shots fired. When they arrived, officers found the victim suffering from gunshot wounds. He died at the scene and IHIT was called. Shortly after the shooting, a vehicle was found burning in an alley near 124th Street and 96th Avenue, IHIT reported, adding that it has now linked the vehicle fire to the shooting. Investigators are seeking witnesses and dash cam footage from both scenes. They encourage anyone with such information to contact IHIT at 877-551-4448 or email the team at [email protected]
