It’s another slow move for people returning to the Lower Mainland from the Southern Interior. DriveBC is warning drivers that they could face delays of more than two hours due to traffic congestion if they head south on the Coquihalla Freeway Sunday afternoon. DriveBC has issued a travel advisory for Highway 5 from Merritt to Hope due to heavy traffic. “Heavy crowding. Expect delays of more than two hours,” the advisory said.

Comments on the Coquihalla Road Reports (And Area) Facebook page indicate the crash has been cleared, but major backups remain. Several people posted pictures of queues of vehicles snaking along the highway. BC Transportation issued a warning earlier Sunday saying the combination of summer traffic volume and work to repair highways damaged in last November’s floods will make delays, especially on the Coquihalla and Highway 1, inevitable.
