Public broadcaster NHK reported that a gunshot-like sound was heard at the time and a 42-year-old man was arrested. According to the national broadcaster, the 67-year-old suffered a cardiac arrest after collapsing. One of the channel’s journalists said he was shot in the chest and saw him fall to the ground, bleeding. NHK broadcast footage showing Abe collapsed in the street, with several security guards running towards him.
