Prince Charles, known as the Duke of Rothesay in Scotland, accompanied her. The military ceremony usually sees the Queen’s Guard for Scottish Archers present the monarch with two arrows, as an act of service and loyalty to the sovereign. However, this year there was a more extravagant gift. The Queen beamed with joy as the Duke of Buccleuch presented her with a beautiful glass sculpture. The Duke, who is one of Scotland’s biggest landowners, explained to the monarch that the special gift was in honor of her Platinum Jubilee. The Queen told her designer, Colin Reid: “Very interesting large piece of glass.” The Duke went on to explain how it came to be, to which Her Majesty replied: “How wonderful, how wonderful.” It was at this point that the royal monarch made a sharp joke to the Duke showing that her sense of humor was intact.
