David Blackwood (Via davidblackwood.com/ Stephen Amini) A few weeks after the death of Christopher Pratt, Newfoundland – and the country – lost another prominent artist. David Blackwood of Wesleyville died over the weekend at the age of 80. While his elemental works depicted the history, life and culture of Bonavista North, Blackwood, who came from a long line of Master Mariners, lived most of his life in Port Hope, Ontario. Leaving for Labrador, Etching with Hand Coloring by David Blackwood Blackwood maintained a studio in his beloved Wesleyville and has received a number of prestigious honors for his work, including the Order of Canada in 1993 and the Order of Ontario in 2002.
