It was reported that the alleged rape occurred in June 2022. “On July 4, a 29-year-old man was arrested at an address in Barnet on suspicion of rape and taken into custody where he remains.” The Daily Telegraph reported that it understood the man was a Premier League footballer due to play at the World Cup in Qatar in November. His arrest made it unclear whether he would play in his side’s pre-season games starting next week ahead of the first game of the 2022/23 Premier League season on August 5. The position of the player in the upcoming international matches was also questioned.
