A drunken driving stop turned into a shooting incident for Penticton police early Tuesday morning. On June 28, shortly after 1 a.m., police conducted a search for driving problems on Peach Rock Road and Green Mountain Road. As the traffic jam continued, a red SUV reached west on Green Mountain Road. Shortly afterwards, shots were heard, apparently coming from the SUV, at police officers. Officers hid and watched as the SUV continued west. A police vehicle was left “full of bullets”, according to the RCMP Const. James Grady. “Fortunately, none of our officers or the residents and pedestrians who were outside at that time were injured,” Grandy said. “It was a very clear contempt for the police and public safety. It further emphasizes the dangers that our front-line officers face on a daily basis while serving our communities. “ Investigators are interested in talking to anyone who may be a witness to the incident or have information about the incident. If you have witnessed this incident or have any other information, you will be asked to call the Penticton RCMP at 250-492-4300. Or remain completely anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
