A doctor who provides virtual care says hundreds of patients are being denied care because of the daily cap on the number of patients a doctor is allowed to treat.
Dr. Todd Young of Main Street Medical in Springdale created the virtual care service Medicauro. While it has seen an increase in use of the service since the pandemic, many people are being turned away as doctors are limited to 40 patients a day.
He says, with the increase in respiratory diseases, there has been an increased demand for the virtual model.
Young says more than 700 patients were unable to take advantage of Medicaro because every doctor had reached the daily cap. He says it’s frustrating when they know there’s a demand for health care.
The Doctor says the restrictions limit the number of people they can see.
He believes if the cap were lifted and doctors could see more patients, the public would feel more reassured about health care services in the province.
