The Calgary Police Traffic Division is investigating the fatal collision. Investigators believe the 29-year-old driver of a 2009 Ford F-150 truck was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of Deerfoot Trail. The truck collided head-on with a southbound vehicle. The driver of the southbound vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. “Alcohol and speed are believed to be factors in the crash,” police said in a news release Friday afternoon. The truck driver was arrested and charges are pending against him. The northbound and southbound lanes of Deerfoot Trail were closed for most of the morning as traffic officials worked to understand the circumstances that led to the crash. All lanes reopened late Friday morning. Investigators are asking anyone with information or dash cam video of the incident to contact the police non-emergency line at 403-266-1234 or anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or calgarycrimestoppers. org.
