The shooting happened around 10 p.m., just minutes after the fireworks began. Sources tell Action News they believe the shooting erupted from a location in front of the Art Museum but behind the main stage at Eakins Oval. Police say a Philadelphia officer assigned to the highway patrol suffered a head injury. A second officer assigned to the Montgomery County Bomb Squad suffered a gunshot wound to the right shoulder. This officer was there to assist Philadelphia police, as officers from surrounding counties often do during major events in the city. Both officers were taken to Jefferson University Hospital by police and listed in stable condition. So far there is no information on a suspect or arrests in the shooting. The circumstances of the shooting remain under investigation. The Philadelphia Police Department took to Twitter to warn others to stay away from the area. For those wishing to reunite with loved ones on the Parkway, please meet at 1901 Vine Street in front of the Free Library of Philadelphia.
