The shooting occurred during a barbecue and biker gathering outside a Queens Village motorcycle club near Jamaica Avenue and 214th just after 8 p.m., police said. Off-duty police officer David Donegan reportedly spotted another man, Mark Gibbs, pull out a gun and fire at a vehicle, police sources said. Donegan returned fire, hitting Gibbs three times around the body. Another gunman then shot Donegan, hitting him once in the left leg, the sources told the Post. A third victim was also shot during the shooting, which happened outside the Square Biz motorcycle club at the annual “Spazz Day” ride and barbecue. Hours before gunfire erupted, the motorcycle club released video of the event showing people dancing along to the “Cha Cha Slide,” a DJ playing street music and motorcycles lining Jamaica Avenue. Juan Gonzalez/NY Post The joyous scene was replaced by the sound of gunfire, roaring ambulances and spent shell casings after the shooting. Officers recovered three spent casings from the scene. The corrections officer was taken to Manhasset Hospital and Gibbs was taken to Jamaica Hospital. The third person who was shot is also being treated at an area hospital. All three are expected to survive.
