It didn’t take place on the iconic Center Court, but the Wimbledon 2022 Third Round match between No. 4 Stefanos Tsitsipas and Nick Kyrgios gave fans the most exciting watch of the tournament so far. Known for his combativeness on court, Kyrgios certainly showed it here, but he outdid himself and defeated Tsitsipas 6-7(2), 6-4, 6-3, 7-6(7). (Justin Setterfield/Getty Images) The height of Kyrgios’ frustrations came before the pivotal third set after winning the second set 6-4. Tsitsipas, frustrated after the set went down, waved a ball into the stands, which would normally have led to disciplinary action from the chair umpire. Home umpire Damien Dumusois didn’t see it that way, prompting Kyrgios to engage in a brief protest. “You can’t hit a ball into a crowd and hit somebody and not get charged,” Kyrgios yelled at Dumusois. “I’d like to talk to a supervisor. I’m not playing until I talk to a supervisor. Take out more supervisors. I’m not done. (Frey/TPN/Getty Images) Kyrgios wasn’t done with his theatrics, calling Dumusois a disgrace and shortly afterwards receiving a code violation for swearing. “The shit the tournament is going to be after this press conference,” Kyrgios said during the blast. Tsitsipas punched the Australian three times in about five minutes, angered by Kyrgios’ stance. Theatrics were there in the court play – especially in the fourth set – which had to be decided by a tiebreaker. Kyrgios took both the set and the match, letting out a thunderous roar in celebration. I played a few weeks ago but I knew it was going to be a tough match,” Kyrgios said. “He’s a hell of a player and it was a hell of a match. I’m very happy to finish. It was frustrating at times – it’s a frustrating sport. You all think you can play but it’s very frustrating. “I have the utmost respect for him. Whatever happens in the sport, I love him and I’m close to his brother, so…” Not only did Kyrgios claim one of the biggest singles wins of his career, he advances to the Sweet 16 at Wimbledon for the first time since 2016. Next up for Kyrgios is a match against unbeaten American Brandon Nakashima on Monday .
