Homicide investigators believe a fatal shooting outside a Surrey, B.C., hotel on Monday was targeted. Cellphone video recorded at the scene shows a man’s body lying on the cement in the hotel parking lot. A witness said rescuers were trying to save the victim, but he did not survive. The bullets started flying around 5pm at the Days Inn hotel on King George Avenue. A witness working nearby heard the sound of four or five gunshots. “I heard them and then there were voices, so I immediately called the police,” said Simran Kaur. Another witness, who did not want to be named, said he also heard gunshots. “The police came and I went to see what happened and there was a body, like dead,” the witness said. Kaur said it was terrifying to realize that someone had been shot and killed. A suspicious vehicle described as an older model silver Infiniti four-door sedan was seen leaving the area. Police are trying to determine if a burned vehicle found a short time later near 96th Avenue and 124th Street is connected to the shooting. The shooting and subsequent car fire have all the hallmarks of a gang-style hit, but police have yet to confirm whether they are connected to the ongoing Lower Mainland gang conflict. Surrey RCMP said early indications are that the shooting was targeted. The Comprehensive Homicide Investigation Team has taken over the case, but did not return requests from CTV News for more information about the killing.
