Nine people, including a teenager, were injured Thursday night in a shooting outside a neighborhood convenience store in Newark, police said. All the victims are expected to survive and police are searching for a vehicle believed to be involved in the shooting, Newark Public Safety Deputy Director Raoul Malave told reporters at the scene. Five of the victims, including a 17-year-old, were taken to hospital. Four other victims were taken to a hospital by EMS, Malave said. Officers responded to the residential neighborhood at approximately 6:19 p.m. after being alerted by the city’s ShotSpotter system, which can detect gunshots. Police were looking for a white Honda Pilot that had been stolen in Jersey City, Malave said. It was not immediately clear how many people were shooting or why the shooting started.
