New York Democratic Mayor Eric Adams has suggested that Rudy Giuliani exaggerate an alleged attack on a supermarket on State Island, saying Tuesday that “falsely reporting a crime is a crime.”
“I saw the video and one has to remind former mayor Giuliani that false reporting of crime is a crime,” Adams told reporters Tuesday, the same day that Giuliani’s son, Andrew Giuliani, faced other GOP candidates in government. race in the by-elections.

The video of the meeting received by the New York Post shows the suspect walking behind Giuliani and slapping him on the back once with his open hand.
Giuliani described it as a “very, very heavy shot” in a Facebook video on Monday.

But the suspect’s defense team, identified as Daniel Gill, a 39-year-old grocery store worker, said it was nothing more than a hit. Adams described the incident in a similar way.
“When you look at the video, the guy actually went over and stroked his back,” Adams said on Tuesday, according to the Guardian. “It was clear that he was not punched in the head. It was clear that he did not feel like a bullet. It was clear that he was not ready to fall to the ground.”
The current mayor claimed that “the prosecutor has the wrong person to investigate”.

“What if we did not have the video? This person would have been charged with a serious crime,” Adams said.
Gill’s charges were dropped on Monday and he was released on bail.
He was initially charged with second-degree assault, now faces third-degree assault, third-degree assault and second-degree harassment charges.
