6:47 p.m.: The Nets and Lakers are in active discussions about a trade involving Kyrie Irving and Russell Westbrook, The Athletic’s Chris Haynes writes. Haynes cites “palpable optimism” that a deal can be finalized, but his sources say there are many details to be worked out. The Nets want to include shooting guard Joe Harris, who is owed $38.6 million over the next two years, according to Haynes. Harris will undergo surgery on his left ankle and has been limited to 14 games this season. The Lakers are reluctant to take on Harris’ contract and want the Nets to give up Seth Curry. Curry is also a capable outside shooter and has an expiring $8.5MM contract. Irving and Westbrook both picked up player options this week, but the two sides must figure out how to match salaries. Irving will make $36.5 million next season, while Westbrook is owed $47 million. The Nets are also seeking draft compensation in the deal. Haynes notes that Brooklyn is in no rush to complete an Irving trade and is considering several offers for Kevin Durant at the same time.
