Sutcliffe officially registered on Wednesday. “I’m excited and grateful today for officially running as the next mayor of Ottawa – the best city in Canada and a place I’m proud to call my hometown,” Sutcliffe said in a press release announcing his candidacy. . “Ottawa has always been considered a great place to live and work. But we are on the brink of some new and important challenges. Our city is in a crisis of affordability. Inflation is rising and there is a serious fear that there will be a recession Right around the corner. “This is a crisis of confidence in our public transport system and we need to improve our roads. In these matters and more, we need new leadership in Ottawa.” This comes amid a major change in the Ottawa City Council, with Mayor Jim Watson and several current councilors not seeking re-election. Sutcliffe has been a prominent figure in the Ottawa business community. He founded the Ottawa Business Journal in 1995, spent many years as a radio presenter on the Newstalk 580 CFRA and 1310 News, appeared on CPAC and Rogers TV, wrote for the Ottawa Citizen, and served on the boards of several organizations in Ottawa. He is currently hosting the Digging Deep podcast. On his online platform, Sutcliffe says that if elected, he would “adequately [fund] Our police, fire and paramedical services and being tough on the causes of crime … we are restoring confidence in our public transport system, we are improving our roads … “and”[keep] taxes, leisure fees and other costs as low as possible “. Sutcliffe will be on the ballot along with seven other candidates: Brandon Bay, Bob Chiarelli, Bernard Kutzman, Graham MacDonald, Kathryn McKenney, Ade Olumid and Param Singh of the 24th Election. Chiarelli, the former mayor of Ottawa, said on Twitter that he welcomes every participant in the mayoral race and looks forward to “a positive campaign for the benefit of our citizens.”
