The crash blocked the eastbound lanes of the main highway in Hurricane for nearly three hours. The crash happened just after 2 p.m. near 3900 State St., in the eastbound lanes from the Interstate 15 exit to Hurricane. UHP, which is leading the crash investigation, said specific details of the incident are unclear, but troopers said for some reason, a silver vehicle traveling westbound veered off center into eastbound traffic. “It’s still a very active investigation,” said Trooper Quincy Breur. “There are many officers investigating. For an unknown reason, the vehicle crossed into eastbound traffic lanes.¨ Brewer said the silver car driven by a female driver hit a pickup traveling eastbound head-on and then hit a sport utility vehicle. The male driver of the pickup truck was pronounced dead at the scene. The pickup ended up off the road in the dirt and brush along the road, UHP said. The driver of the silver car was injured and taken to St. George Regional Hospital. Breur did not have information on whether there were any injuries in the third vehicle. Eastbound SR-9 did not fully reopen shortly before 6 p.m Along with the Utah Highway Patrol, fire and hurricane police also responded. Bruer said it is unknown if there were excessive speeds in the 50 mph zone of the road located between the Lava Bluff Mobile Home Park entrance and the State Street Chevron service station.
