Due to a temporary gap in coverage, VCH is implementing this interim measure to ensure that those with access to maternity services continue to receive quality care and treatment, wherever they are on the maternity trip. Our priority continues to be the well-being, health and safety of our patients, including babies born on our hospital premises. VCH appreciates the importance of patients having a safe and positive delivery experience and is committed to making this referral process as seamless as possible for any patient who may be affected. A regional Emergency Operations Center will support the diversion of patients to other facilities, as appropriate, to ensure that the unit is ready to provide a high level of care and to meet their needs. We also recognize that this functional adjustment may cause concern to those who have access to maternity services, and we sincerely apologize to our patients and their families for any inconvenience. VCH makes every effort to address any gaps in coverage and continues to investigate and implement a wide range of measures to help address current staffing challenges and other acute care requirements. This includes targeted hiring strategies and redesigning staffing models where needed. If they need urgent care, pregnant women should go to the Emergency Department closest to them. If the person thinks he / she has complications, he / she should call 9-1-1 without delay.
