Dr. Mehmet Oz is accused of recording a campaign video from his New Jersey mansion. The video shows what appears to be the same library as the one in his New Jersey home. Oz is a Republican candidate for the US Senate in Pennsylvania and was endorsed by former President Trump.

Since announcing his candidacy for the US Senate seat representing Pennsylvania, Dr. Mehmet Oz, the famous doctor turned Republican politician, is facing criticism that he doesn’t actually live in the state he wants to represent. As reported by The Philadelphia Inquirer, Oz, in December 2020, registered to vote using his in-laws’ Bryn Athyn address. And according to his campaign, that Montgomery County address is where he lives today. But in January 2020, Oz and his wife gave People magazine access to a property much closer to New York. The title: “Inside the New Jersey mansion Dr. Oz and his wife Lisa built it from scratch 20 years ago.” On Thursday, Oz’s Democratic opponent, Pennsylvania Lt. Gov. John Fetterman, accused the Trump-backed candidate of releasing a campaign video recorded on the same property. “Pro tip: Do not film an ad for your Pennsylvania Senate campaign from your New Jersey mansion,” Fetterman said in a statement. It is unclear where Oz filmed the campaign video. His campaign did not immediately respond to Insider’s request for comment. In the campaign video posted by Oz on Twitter, he blasts Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney for the widely publicized comments he made after two police officers were shot on July 4. An exasperated Kenney told reporters that night that he was tired of dealing with gun violence and would be “happy when I’m not here.” “A surgeon never gives up on his patients, especially when lives are on the line,” Oz says in the video — in front of bookcases that look similar to those featured in People magazine. Notably, both the campaign video and the one shot by People appear to feature bookcases with the same rope-like design between the shelves, and both also feature blue-and-white ceramic vases and gold candle holders. The story continues Even if Oz still lived at his Cliffside Park address, just across the Hudson River from New York City, it wouldn’t affect his eligibility to run for federal office in Pennsylvania — as long as he doesn’t vote in New Jersey. According to the US Constitution, a US senator need only reside “when elected” in the state he wishes to represent. Got a news tip?
