The rain clouds cleared to give several hundred Sault Ste. Marie Michigan residents a parade to remember this 4th of July holiday. A line of floats, tractors, boats and dancers lined up around 6 p.m. in the parking lot behind the Asian Buffet. They started for W. Portage Avenue shortly after 7 p.m Community members and visitors waited anxiously, dispersing along Ashmun Street and Portage Avenue. Some were decked out in red, white and blue to show their proud patriotism. This included fur leashed family members. The kids laughed and played as they chased Tootsie Rolls, Dum Dums and Jolly Ranchers. Seamore even joined in on the fun, riding a Lake Superior State University float. The parade ended around 8:10 p.m. to allow spectators a two-hour break before the fireworks start at 10.15pm Hundreds more filled Brady Park and nearby areas to watch the show. That was about the time it started to rain, but sparks of color lit up the night sky regardless. The holiday weekend is over and for many it’s back in the spotlight.
