National pride has plummeted, with a majority of Republicans and independents and nearly half of Democrats feeling unhappy with their country, according to the latest Fox News poll.
The poll, released on Thursday, asks registered voters “are you proud of the country today”, to which only 39% answer “yes”. This is 12 points lower than in June 2017 (last time the question was asked) and 30 points lower than in June 2011.
While the question has only been asked four times, this is the first time that the majority feel frustrated in the country: 56% are not proud, up from 45% in 2017 and 28% in 2011.

Independents and Republicans have reversed their positions since 2017, while former “not proud” Democrats are now on the fence.
In 2017, Republicans (by 31 points) and independents (by 4 points) were proud. Today, both teams feel frustrated with the country, the GOP by 24 points and the independents by 35.
Democrats were 17 points more likely to be disappointed in the country in 2017, while now they are divided: 46% are proud and 48% are not.

The men also reversed positions. They were more likely to be proud in 2017 with 22 points, while now they are not proud with 14 points. Women were unhappy in 2017 and remain to this day, but by a much larger margin, they were not proud by 9 points five years ago compared to 21 points today.
Black voters remain in the “not proud” column, although the margin is shrinking: from a margin of 28 points five years ago to a margin of 9 points today.

“While once being proud of America was seen as a prerequisite for being patriotic, this has also been incorporated into partisanship. It seems to many that pride and patriotism no longer concern our democratic freedoms but the individual in the White House,” he said.
