Former Global Okanagan face enters politics. Rick Webber announced on Facebook Wednesday night that he will run for Kelowna city council this fall, a decision he said he made “with a lot of excitement and a little trepidation.” “I have renamed this Facebook page and plan to use it as the primary social media outlet for the campaign in the coming months,” he added. Webber retired from Global Okanagan in 2019 after nearly 30 years as an anchor at CHBC and 43 years in the broadcasting industry. Webber, if successful, would be the third CHBC figure to be elected to the city council in recent years. Mayor Colin Bashran worked at the station from 2002 to 2007 before entering real estate, while Coun. Mohini Singh was with the station from 1989 to 2007. The municipal elections in BC are held on October 15.
