Kentucky State soldier Matt Gayheart said the KSP Post 9 in Pikeville responded to a call shortly after 6:30 p.m. for a complaint about aiding a police officer for shooting, the situation then turned into an active sniper. The perpetrator is now in custody and there is no danger to public safety. WMDJ FM 100.1 reports that the two hostages – the perpetrator’s wife and daughter – are safe. Mountain Top News reports that lawmakers went to a house on Railroad Street to deliver documents earlier Thursday afternoon, and as soon as police approached the house, they came under fire. The man then entered the house and exchanged shots with police. Several police officers were reported injured and taken to a local hospital. The station reports that Kentucky police and the Floyd County Sheriff’s Department are active at the scene of the shooting in Allen City. The incident allegedly started around 4 in the afternoon as a family dispute. The WMDJ confirmed that one person had been shot and that a roadblock had been set up. Many law enforcement agencies provide support and prayer positions for officers on the scene in Floyd County. The Hodgkinville Police Department wrote: “Reports from Floyd KY County indicate that many police officers have been shot and the scene is still active. Pray for our brothers tonight because they will surely need them.” Magoffin County Sheriff’s Division shared: “Our hearts are heavy tonight. We would like to ask you to pray for our fellow law enforcement officers and the first responders to the crisis in Allen. Every day an officer goes out, he never knows if he will make it back home.
