At least five people were injured when police exchanged fire with armed suspects who broke into a bank on Shelbourne Street on Tuesday. Two people have been arrested, but one suspect may still be at large, prompting police to advise locals to seek refuge. The order remained in effect from 1:10 p.m., as police announced that they were continuing the search for a possible third suspect. (CHEK News) Police were called for the first time in the area of Shelbourne and Pear streets after armed suspects were reported to the bank sometime between 11 and 11:30 a.m. Police urged the public to avoid the area as the police incident unfolded, telling CHEK News that it was an “evolving incident”. Police tweeted about 20 minutes later that they were “continuing to send officers” to the area and again appealed to people to avoid the area. Reports surfaced on social media from people who said they could hear gunshots in the area. The Emergency Health Services of BC. confirmed that several ambulances were called to the area around 11:20 a.m. Five patients were taken to hospital with unknown injuries. Their current situation is not known. EHS crews remained at the scene Tuesday afternoon. A video leaked to CHEK News shows several police officers running to the Bank of Montreal branch in Selbourne as gunshots are heard. The owner of Oregano’s Pizza, located at Shelbourne Plaza in Shelbourne in Pear, said he saw several police vehicles with lights on in front of McDonald’s in Shelbourne around 11:10 a.m., with another next to TD Bank. “Everyone had … their weapons on their sides,” said Jason Venkaya. “I knew something was wrong.
