Around 9:30 p.m., the Metrolinx transport agency says it has received a report “that a group of young people set off fireworks from the floor of a cab”.
Toronto police say GO Transit police officers were on the scene and arrested a 14-year-old boy and a 16-year-old boy at Rouge Hill Station.
Following further investigation, police said the 16-year-old was released and the 14-year-old was charged with misdemeanors under $ 5,000.
The identity of the minor cannot be made public under the Juvenile Justice Act.
Metrolinx says this is the second incident in the past week with people firing “illegal and dangerous” fireworks.
The other incident happened earlier this week, when fireworks were fired directly at the station staff.
No injuries were reported in any of the incidents.
“Fortunately, none of the incidents caused serious injuries. “However, firing fireworks at people or on trains is incredibly dangerous and could lead to serious charges,” Aikins said.
