Around 9:30 p.m., transit agency Metrolinx says it received a report “that a group of youths set off fireworks from the floor of a cab.” Toronto police say GO Transit special officers were on the scene and arrested a 14-year-old boy and a 16-year-old boy at the Rouge Hill station. After further investigation, police said the 16-year-old was released and the 14-year-old was charged with mischief under $5,000. The identity of the minor cannot be released under the Youth Criminal Justice Act. Metrolinx says this is the second incident in the past week of people setting off “illegal and dangerous” fireworks. The other incident happened earlier this week when fireworks were fired directly at station staff. No injuries were reported in either incident. “Fortunately, none of the incidents resulted in serious injuries. However, shooting fireworks in the direction of people or at trains is incredibly dangerous and could lead to serious charges,” Aikins said.
